October 1, 2021 | Leave a comment A group of faculty in Language and Culture disciplines met in Fall 2021 and discussed how we can support students in language- and culture-based majors at LaGuardia Community College. We have identified one challenge overarching in all of these majors and proposed a possible solution to it. Challenge: Students lack a global view of their program/academic path Solution/Action: Connect students and alumni to find a path together on the social media platforms of their choice What students will do (evidence for learning) Alumnus/a-student relation building: Each student will meet with an alumnus/a on a regular basis Experiential learning: Students visit the alumnus’ school (4-year institution) and/or his/her workplace. Students also engage in experiential learning related to their major (e.g., paid or unpaid internships, community events by CBOs or NPOs etc) Social media: Students will create and publish social media contents under the guidance of the faculty member Below is a copy of the presentation slides.
